Disaster Response Training: Preparing Ascension Parish to Respond Together
When an emergency happens, preparation and coordination can make all the difference. Ascension CAER (Community Awareness & Emergency Response) helps coordinate and participate in disaster response training with 32 industrial and chemical plants in and around Ascension Parish.
These training efforts bring industry and emergency response agencies together to practice how they will communicate, coordinate resources, and respond during a potential emergency.
Training Through Partnership
Ascension CAER works alongside key emergency response and public safety organizations, including:
Ascension Parish Office of Homeland Security
Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office
U.S. Coast Guard
Louisiana State Police
Local emergency response organizations and participating industrial facilities
Working together allows responders and industry partners to better understand their roles and responsibilities before an actual incident occurs.
Preparing for Real-World Emergencies
Training exercises can involve a variety of emergency scenarios, allowing participating organizations to evaluate communication procedures, response plans, coordination, and protective actions. These exercises also provide an opportunity to identify areas that may need improvement.
The goal isn't simply to conduct a drill—it's to build relationships, improve coordination, and strengthen preparedness throughout the community.
A Safer Ascension Parish Starts With Preparation
Ascension Parish is home to a significant industrial community, making strong partnerships between industry, emergency management, law enforcement, and other response agencies especially important.
Through ongoing training and collaboration, Ascension CAER helps bring these partners together to prepare, practice, and improve their ability to respond when an emergency occurs.

Prepared communities are safer communities—and preparedness starts with working together.
